Bella Vista was built in 1919 for the then Manager of BHP's Newcastle Steel Works, David Baker. An American Steel-maker, David Baker had been brought to Australia to advise BHP on the establishment of the steel works. Since it's completion, Bella Vista has become deeply woven into the fabric of the region's rich history.
